About Me
Hello, my name is Farin Mehdiyeva.
I graduated with a degree in Mass Communication at UNCA, with experience in social media management and content creation. Through my coursework and internships, I have developed skills in creating various types of content, including blog writing, newsletters, graphics, and both short-and long-form video.
I am currently in a part-time Outreach Coordinator position where I am in charge of spreading awareness of mental health counseling and social services, building partnerships, and attending community events.

Lost in Silence: Exploring Asheville's Forgotten Silent Film Era
I came up with the idea for this article after learning about the FAFSA changes. I quickly realized that there was little coverage on this topic in accessible language, breaking down the relevant updates.
I interviewed three subjects for this article: a student and her mother, both affected by the FAFSA changes, as well as a staff member from the UNCA financial aid office.
Throughout this project, I learned how to manage tight deadlines and the importance of staying flexible. Before publishing, I had to update my article to include UNCA's new free tuition policy for families earning under $80,000 a year.
As a result of my experience in newswriting, I understand AP style formatting and how to present issues in a neutral and clear manner.

Lost in Silence: Exploring Asheville's Forgotten Silent Film Era
Lost in Silence: Exploring Asheville's Forgotten Silent Film Era
Lost in Silence is a documentary that tells the story of the only surviving silent film produced in Asheville, Conquest of Canaan. It follows the journey to bring the film back to theaters 100 years after its creation.
As the director of this project, I was responsible for ensuring that the film's direction aligned with my vision.
I wrote the interview questions, corresponded with three interviewees, and conducted most of the interviews. In addition to working with interviewees, I was involved in color-correcting 20 minutes of footage for the film. To provide further direction, I helped craft a basic storyboard.
Through my research, I provided archival footage and photographs for the documentary. In addition to archival work, I researched Asheville’s silent film history to establish a foundational understanding of the topic before conducting interviews.

Between the Lines Podcast
Between the Lines is a podcast that centers on highlighting the importance, struggles, and responsibilities that interpreters tackle during their every day lives on the job.
Since this was a solo project, I took on the responsibility of interviewing subjects and storyboarding the podcast.
Through this project, I gained a basic understanding of audio editing using Adobe Audition. I also developed my scriptwriting skills, ensuring that I presented my ideas in a straightforward yet engaging manner.
